Directorate of Gender in the Administration Police Service (APS) is established to institutionalize gender equality and promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment within the police service. This directorate plays a critical role in addressing gender-related issues affecting both police officers and the communities they serve.

Functions and Mandates of the Directorate

  • Promote gender and welfare issues in the Administration Police Service.
  •  Facilitate and support the implementation of the Administration Police Service policies, strategies, and procedures through advisory and training.
  •  Ensure constitutional requirement of ensuring inclusivity and respect for diversity in all its spheres.
  •  Support and promote the enhancement of welfare matters in the service.

  •  To promote gender equity and responsive policing.
  •  To enhance community partnerships in promoting gender and welfare issues.
  •  Enhance international practices that relate to gender issues.
  •  Promote and support welfare issues in the service through advisories and training.
  •  Develop and cascade gender mainstreaming and welfare policies.
  •  Provide technical advice to the DIG on gender mainstreaming and affirmative action in the service.
